Tell us about yourself.
Having been blessed with a love for telling stories and a life full of drama/trauma loving to write, putting them all together seemed like a no brainer. It has turned out to be one of my greatest ideas in a life full of hair brain ideas. Writing about life issues, human foibles and family dysfunction even generally has given me a wonderfully healing prospective on my own life. Although some of the things I write about I have experienced these books are works of fiction.
What inspired your book Done Growed Up?
Mainly, I wanted Ginny Mackey to have a chance at redemption for her actions in my previous novel. Women in that time didn’t have it easy and Ginny lacked the resources for mental health. I wanted her to get help so my readers could see that she has a heart and soul.
Tell us about your main character.
Ginny Mackey is a recently divorced mother of four struggling to put her life back together after loosing a baby, going through a divorce and drowning her sorrows in alcohol.
What other books have you written?
Apron Strings the first in the Apron Strings
What do you think readers will find most appealing about your book?
I think my characters are multidimensional with redeemable qualities and hateful qualities…sometimes both. People really care what is going to happen to them.
How did you come up with the idea for your book cover?
Childhood is supposed to be a free and easy time. The girl flying the kite is representative of that feeling, but the child is a sillouette and there is an ominous darkness around her. Her representative mother is present in the scene to offer comfort, yet is not entirely focused on that task. It seemed that being “Done Growed Up” was represented well on all counts and the main characters’ personalities also shine through on this cover.
What are you currently working on?
My fourth novel entitled Shooting in the Dark at Scarce Birds is a novel set in Oak Ridge Tennessee during the war. It is about secrets in a secret city.
