Laundry is a chore that all of us have to do and not everyone loves to do it. It can add up in costs when it comes to electricity and water. Plus lets not forget the price of laundry detergent and bounce sheets.
Here are some great tips on how you can save money when doing laundry.
When using your washing machine, do smaller loads on a light setting. It uses less water and also allows you to dry the load faster which stops you from using so much electricity.
Wash your clothes in cold water. I have done this for years since I was a teen and was a nanny in a home. The mother showed me to do the laundry in cold water to save money. I have done that ever since and my clothes are just as clean as those washed in warm or hot water.
Skip the dryer sheets. You heard right. Skip them. Keep your money in your pocket. Purchase a set of dryer balls. You can purchase a pair here online. No chemicals, toxins and speeds up the drying time. So you not only save by not buying dryer sheets but you also save money on your electricity bills.
Pre-treat stains so you don’t have to use the ‘heavy’ cycle or whatever your washer uses for stains. I sometimes use a product to pre-treat but often what I use is laundry soap and scrubbing power. By scrubbing the material together with some laundry soap, I can get the stain out. Save yourself some money on the extra water and electricity by trying to get the stain out yourself.
A simple tip, get yourself a outdoor line to hang your clothes. That saves you on electricity for the summer and then use one indoors for the winter. There are still somethings I will not hang to dry. Towels are one of them.
Make sure the clothing you put in the dryer is the same weighted material. Do towels with towels or light clothing with light clothing. It helps with drying times and saves you money on your electricity bills.
