What is Hip? The Life And Times Of The Tragically Hip

Author: NY Times Best-selling Author Marc Shapiro

Publisher: Riverdale Avenue Books

“The Tragically Hip is certainly one of the greatest bands we’ve ever produced in this country.”

– Geddy Lee of Rush

New York, NY: April 18th – On August 20th, 2016 about 11.7 million Canadians stood transfixed, watching the final concert of The Tragically Hip, and the rest of the world asked, “Who is this band?” New York Times best-selling pop journalist Marc Shapiro answers that question in the first American book about this Canadian rock band that largely shunned the spotlight but has become the standard bearer of a resurgent sense of Canadian pride and patriotism.

Done Growed Up Giveaway

Tell us about yourself.

Having been blessed with a love for telling stories and a life full of drama/trauma loving to write, putting them all together seemed like a no brainer. It has turned out to be one of my greatest ideas in a life full of hair brain ideas. Writing about life issues, human foibles and family dysfunction even generally has given me a wonderfully healing prospective on my own life. Although some of the things I write about I have experienced these books are works of fiction.

What inspired your book Done Growed Up?

Mainly, I wanted Ginny Mackey to have a chance at redemption for her actions in my previous novel. Women in that time didn’t have it easy and Ginny lacked the resources for mental health. I wanted her to get help so my readers could see that she has a heart and soul.

Tell us about your main character.

Ginny Mackey is a recently divorced mother of four struggling to put her life back together after loosing a baby, going through a divorce and drowning her sorrows in alcohol.

What other books have you written?

Apron Strings the first in the Apron Strings

What do you think readers will find most appealing about your book?

I think my characters are multidimensional with redeemable qualities and hateful qualities…sometimes both. People really care what is going to happen to them.

How did you come up with the idea for your book cover?

Childhood is supposed to be a free and easy time. The girl flying the kite is representative of that feeling, but the child is a sillouette and there is an ominous darkness around her. Her representative mother is present in the scene to offer comfort, yet is not entirely focused on that task. It seemed that being “Done Growed Up” was represented well on all counts and the main characters’ personalities also shine through on this cover.

What are you currently working on?

My fourth novel entitled Shooting in the Dark at Scarce Birds is a novel set in Oak Ridge Tennessee during the war. It is about secrets in a secret city.

How can readers discover more about you and your work?

Nickelodeon Sanjay and Craig: Fight the Future with Flavor

Enter to win a Sanjay and Craig Novel from Nickelodeon ~ CAN/US ~ ends Dec. 4/15 #win #contest #Giveaway #Tween

Both my children love watching Nickelodeon Sanjay and Craig television show and enjoyed the characters. As a mom, I am happy that my children choose to watch shows on Nickelodeon because I don’t have to worry about what they are watching.

Like some other parents, sometimes it is hard to get your child to read more than play video games or watch television but when they find something they love to read, it’s no longer a fight.

I am happy that Sanjay and Craig: Fight the Future with Flavor has been released. As soon as my 10 year old son, Spencer saw the book he said “It is Nickelodeon and that’s pretty popular.” He also responded after “I have watched this cartoon before! “

He sat down and read it without me having to ask him to check it out or beg him to try reading at least for 5 minutes. I am sure we have all been through that as children when we were forced to read certain books for assignments in school. I know I was like that but if I found something I enjoyed, I would read until the book was done.

He enjoyed the book and actually asked if we could pick up some new ones.

I plan on to continue to purchase various Nickelodeon books that are out for him to read. It works because for his homework he is suppose to read for 30 minutes a night.

Nickelodeon Sanjay and Craig has colourful pictures and a fun story line that your children will enjoy. This is a must-have on your child’s book shelf.
